No-Bird 107. FC GUNSTOCK’S RED ALERT, “Danger,” YLM, Danny Farmer

 Danger and Danny came to the line at 9:10 am and had a No-Bird, they will be back

No-Bird 106. FC-AFC BOO’S STRAIGHT LINE IS GOOD IDEA, “Torq,” BLM, Isaac Langerud

 Torq and Isaac came to the line at 9:08 am and had a No-Bird, they will be back after 6 dogs

Pick-up 105. FC-AFC TEN BEARS SKYWALKER, “Luke,” BLM, Charlie Hines

Came to the line at 8:58 am

LF - Out right of the guns - up the hill away from the bird - hunted his way back down and worked it out and got it

LR - Arrived under the arc - went deep back around the blind - went deeper for a bit - came back to the blind and hunted his way up the hill away from the bird - handled back to this bird.

RF - Out to the fall area under the arc of the Right Retired bird and missed deep wide right - came back and then went deeper wide right behind the flyers station - gunners came out to help - dog was picked up



Handle 104. FC BLACK SPELL BREW, “Brew,” BLM, Jerry Patopea

Came to the line at 8:49 am

LF - Brew went out just right of the bird - drove the hill to the tree - but turned around and came back to his bird

LR - Entered the area wide left - looped around the tree and up the hillside - turned right and dropped into the area of the fall and located the bird

RF - Very nice job on this flyer

RR -  Was handled to this bird.


No-Bird 103. FC-AFC BAYOU TECHE PAINT THE BLACK, “Madduxx,” BLM, Craig Crook

 Madduxx and Craig came to the line at 8:47 am and had a No-Bird, they will be back after 6

Handle 102. FC-AFC EXECUTION SOUTHERN STYLE - LETHAL, “Lethal,” BLM, Jason Baker

Came to the line at 8:31 am

LF - Headed to the guns for his bird in the opposite direction - hunted high and deep for quite an extended hunt - but he got it

LR - Out to the blind - a few loops deep and got it quickly

RF - Out deep and left of the guns - circled back right and then straight for the bird

RR - Drove out deep  - we saw a splash in a back pond - had to handle back to this bird


Pick-up 99. FC Y-FARMS LSU MAD GRADE LEAN CUT LEFT, “Louie,” BLM, JD Babb

Came to the line at 8:25 am

LF - Across the flat to the fall area and then his bird

LR - Took a loop short - behind the guns and moved to the flyer area - got into the area and handler tried to handle - but the dog was picked up


Pick-up 97. FC J.S.’S GAME ON, “Gio,” BLM, Clint Avant

Came to the line at 8:13 am

LR - Arrived in the field behind the LR gunners - worked up the hill supporting an extended hunt - he finally came lower into the field and was handled to the LR bird

RF - Hunted the cover for the bird for a bit - moved deep and left and then back to the area and got his bird

RR - Cut right at the mound - made a couple passes and went around the blind - moved deep and was attempted to handle to the bird ... dog was picked up





Double Handle Rerun 92. PRINCETONS STEEL MAGNOLIA, “Ouisa,” BLF, Al Arthur

Came to the line at 8:03 am

LR - Straight to the cover holding the bird. Stayed in the area and she got it

RF - Into the area under the arc - worked the area tight and got her bird

RR - Good line to the area - but drove deep of the bird and was handled to this bird

LF - Came into the area under the arc - drove the hill and hunted behind the big tree - hunt pattern included the hillside, but in the end,  the dog was handled to this bird.



Rerun 90. FC THIEVEN COUNTRY GRAMMAR, “Nelly,” BLF, Mark Smith

Came to the line at 7:49 am

LF - Hunted the flat and the hill and around the guns - back in the flats covering all her ground - got it!

LR - Out to loop around the blind -  took a loop deep and then back for her bird - missed it - deep uphill and then back to the blind and then she located her bird

RF - Nice work!

RR - Over the mound and she got it!





No-Bird Rerun 83. FC-AFC RAZOR’S BUCKSHOT, “Shooter,” BLM, Ty Rorem

 Shooter and Ty came to the line at 7:24 am for a Rerun and had another No-Bird, they will be back at the end

5th Series Test Dog - 2nd Day

The single test dog to the line this morning was Whimsey with handler Betsy Broyd .... Whimsey came to the line at 7:04 am

LF - Running right of the tree she drove the hill and got her bird.

LR - Out to the area - a loop deep - around the tree and a couple tight loops and then she had her bird

RF - She made a bee-line to the area - a tight hunt in the cover and she got her bird

RR - Little pull left as she crossed the mound - arriving left of the blind - drives deep to the water - guns stand up to help

Good Morning - Day 5

 Good Morning Everyone and Welcome to the 5th day of the National Open Retriever Championship! 

This morning we are finishing up the 5th Series, we are currently almost half way through.

This morning has started out very cold again with temps in the upper 30's ... Brrrrr! The good news is that the expected high for the day is 63 degrees this afternoon with sunny and clear skies expected to last throughout the day and light wind of 5-8 mph. Any changing conditions will be reported as the day goes on.

Stay tuned to the blog as we prepare to finish up the 5th Series the is proving very challenging for the competing teams!

We have 33 dogs left to run this series – Best of Luck to Everyone!
