The mat for this test sits on a mound facing Southwest. It looks out over a pond that is framed with trees. There is a road at the base of the mound, the field beyond is mowed in strips with large round hay bales dispersed throughout. The wind is coming out of the Southwest and the skies are cloudy and grey.
The order of the birds will be as follows:
Bird #1 is manned by 2 gunners located in the middle directly across the pond. These gunners will throw a duck left to right landing approximately 261 yards from the mat. The gunners will retire to a well brushed blind along the tree line. On line to this bird the dog will pass a point on the near shore and cross the pond to a point on the far shore to locate this bird. (We will refer to this bird as MR for Middle Retired)
Bird #2 is a 2 man gun station on the left side of the test, that throws a duck left to right landing on an island in the pond at approximately 161 yards out. The line the dog will take will drop them down the mound, across the road and into the field to maneuver across another mound and enter the pond to swim to the island to locate the bird. These guns will also retire. (We will refer to this Island bird as Island)
Bird #3 is a 3 man gun station team on the far right of the field, shooting a duck left to right that will land uphill at approximately 219 yards from the mat. The dog will have to navigate heavy cover cut in strips, and pass through numerous round hay bales. (We will refer to this bird as F for Flyer)
This test is taking approximately 7 minutes per dog to complete.
