Handle 104. FC BLACK SPELL BREW, “Brew,” BLM, Jerry Patopea

Came to the line at 8:49 am

LF - Brew went out just right of the bird - drove the hill to the tree - but turned around and came back to his bird

LR - Entered the area wide left - looped around the tree and up the hillside - turned right and dropped into the area of the fall and located the bird

RF - Very nice job on this flyer

RR -  Was handled to this bird.


No-Bird 103. FC-AFC BAYOU TECHE PAINT THE BLACK, “Madduxx,” BLM, Craig Crook

 Madduxx and Craig came to the line at 8:47 am and had a No-Bird, they will be back after 6

Handle 102. FC-AFC EXECUTION SOUTHERN STYLE - LETHAL, “Lethal,” BLM, Jason Baker

Came to the line at 8:31 am

LF - Headed to the guns for his bird in the opposite direction - hunted high and deep for quite an extended hunt - but he got it

LR - Out to the blind - a few loops deep and got it quickly

RF - Out deep and left of the guns - circled back right and then straight for the bird

RR - Drove out deep  - we saw a splash in a back pond - had to handle back to this bird


Pick-up 99. FC Y-FARMS LSU MAD GRADE LEAN CUT LEFT, “Louie,” BLM, JD Babb

Came to the line at 8:25 am

LF - Across the flat to the fall area and then his bird

LR - Took a loop short - behind the guns and moved to the flyer area - got into the area and handler tried to handle - but the dog was picked up


Pick-up 97. FC J.S.’S GAME ON, “Gio,” BLM, Clint Avant

Came to the line at 8:13 am

LR - Arrived in the field behind the LR gunners - worked up the hill supporting an extended hunt - he finally came lower into the field and was handled to the LR bird

RF - Hunted the cover for the bird for a bit - moved deep and left and then back to the area and got his bird

RR - Cut right at the mound - made a couple passes and went around the blind - moved deep and was attempted to handle to the bird ... dog was picked up





Double Handle Rerun 92. PRINCETONS STEEL MAGNOLIA, “Ouisa,” BLF, Al Arthur

Came to the line at 8:03 am

LR - Straight to the cover holding the bird. Stayed in the area and she got it

RF - Into the area under the arc - worked the area tight and got her bird

RR - Good line to the area - but drove deep of the bird and was handled to this bird

LF - Came into the area under the arc - drove the hill and hunted behind the big tree - hunt pattern included the hillside, but in the end,  the dog was handled to this bird.



Rerun 90. FC THIEVEN COUNTRY GRAMMAR, “Nelly,” BLF, Mark Smith

Came to the line at 7:49 am

LF - Hunted the flat and the hill and around the guns - back in the flats covering all her ground - got it!

LR - Out to loop around the blind -  took a loop deep and then back for her bird - missed it - deep uphill and then back to the blind and then she located her bird

RF - Nice work!

RR - Over the mound and she got it!





No-Bird Rerun 83. FC-AFC RAZOR’S BUCKSHOT, “Shooter,” BLM, Ty Rorem

 Shooter and Ty came to the line at 7:24 am for a Rerun and had another No-Bird, they will be back at the end

The single test dog to the line this morning was Whimsey with handler Betsy Broyd .... Whimsey came to the line at 7:04 am

LF - Running right of the tree she drove the hill and got her bird.

LR - Out to the area - a loop deep - around the tree and a couple tight loops and then she had her bird

RF - She made a bee-line to the area - a tight hunt in the cover and she got her bird

RR - Little pull left as she crossed the mound - arriving left of the blind - drives deep to the water - guns stand up to help

Good Morning - Day 5

 Good Morning Everyone and Welcome to the 5th day of the National Open Retriever Championship! 

This morning we are finishing up the 5th Series, we are currently almost half way through.

This morning has started out very cold again with temps in the upper 30's ... Brrrrr! The good news is that the expected high for the day is 63 degrees this afternoon with sunny and clear skies expected to last throughout the day and light wind of 5-8 mph. Any changing conditions will be reported as the day goes on.

Stay tuned to the blog as we prepare to finish up the 5th Series the is proving very challenging for the competing teams!

We have 33 dogs left to run this series – Best of Luck to Everyone!

No-bird 92. PRINCETONS STEEL MAGNOLIA, “Ouisa,” BLF, Al Arthur

 Ouisa and Al came to the line at 4:43 and they had a No-Bird, they will go back 6 dogs

No-Bird 90. FC THIEVEN COUNTRY GRAMMAR, “Nelly,” BLF, Mark Smith

 Nelly and Mark came to the line at 4:41 and they had a No-Bird, they will go back 6 dogs

Rerun 77. FC-AFC GONNA BEE DANGEROUS, “Bee,” BLF, JD Babb

Came back to the line at 4:29 pm for a Rerun

LF -  Short hunt and she got it

LR - Out to the area - missed and started hunting around the tree - the blind and the field - getting closer to the line and farther from the bird - turned and went back out by the blind and then towards the flyer - back to the blind and finally out for the bird.

RF -  Went through the Right Retired and went deep - now deep of the flyer - continued to hunt deep - worked it out and got the flyer

RR -  Went out and got it!


89. NAFC-FC BAYOU-STAR FLEURTY GIRL, “Fleurt,” BLF, Alan Pleasant

Came to the line at 4:20 pm

LF - Up to the tree and out -  hunted back and forth - back to the flyer guns - down to check the bales and she got it

LR - Smack! Wow!

RF - Very nice line to this bird!

RR - Straight to the area and the bird!


 

85. FC-AFC SOUTHWINDZ MIDNIGHT BREES QA2, “Brees,” BLF, Matt Miller

Came to the line at 4:10 pm

LF - Brees entered the field right of the tree at the base of the hill - made a couple loops and had his bird

RR - Drove past the Left Retired area and worked out the Right Retired bird instead - got it

RF - Into the flyer area for an extended hunt - she worked the area - drove deep for a couple passes deep and then came back in and worked out the location of her bird

LR - Headed to the fall area of the LR - pulled left to hunt the area where the gunners stood - worked over towards the fall area and found her bird

Came to the line at 3:57 pm

LF -  Hunted the area - but she got it

LR - Out to the blind - missed and went deep and wide left - back to the blind and out into the cover - missed it again - went up the side of the hill - still hunting - got it

RF - Out by the guns - turned right - out to the bird and scooped it up

RR - Out to the area - hunted and missed - came to the blind - back out and missed it again - continued to hunt - and she worked it out and got her bird



Pick-up 79. AFC SASSEVILLE’S DEUCES WILD, “Deuce,” BLM, Randy Spangler

Came to the line at 3:46 pm

LF -  Straight to the flyer and dug it out of thick undergrowth

LR - Ran through the area and went deep - worked back to the blind - circled and came back to it

RF - Went through the fall of the Left Retired and kept going - was handled back to the cover and then the fall area to get the flyer

RR - Handled to this bird - required gunner help. Dog is picked up.

Bee and JD Came to the line at 3:40 pm and had a No-Bird, they will be back after 6 dogs

Came to the line at 3:32 pm

LF -  Out to the area - multiple loops covering the area below the tree - then a pass behind the tree and went very deep of the bird - Colt is picked up


 

74. FC-AFC HRK LEXINGTON, “Lexi,” BLF, Marcy Wright

Came to the line at 3:25 pm

LF -  Ran straight towards the guns - turned left and scooped it up just past the tree

LR - Through the fall area of the Flyer and she went deep for a hunt but came back and got it

RF - Went in the direction of the Right Retired bird but went through to the flyer - handler blew a whistle but she was not handled because she was getting her flyer

RR - Nice line on this one and got it.



72. FC-AFC DAYS END BOY NAME SUE QA2, “Sue,” BLM, Mark Medford

Came to the line at 3:14 pm

LF -  Out to the tree - around and up and down - he hunted between the guns and the tree and he got it!

LR - Overran the area - put on the brakes and came straight back for the bird!

RF - Smacked it!

RR - Drove to the fall area and missed on his first pass - turned and he got it!

Pick-up 71. FC-AFC OCTOBER SKY’S SWEET BABY BEAUREGARD, “Beau,” YLM, Chad Worsell

Came to the line at 2:58 pm

LF -  Under the arc - up the hill to the right away from the bird - hunted behind the tree - around and then back up the hill - all around the tree again and again - then he drove out to the fall area and got the bird

LR - Kept going to the far hay bale for a loop and beyond - came back in and quickly back deep again - then into the cover and the bird

RF - Had an extended hunt deep - but he worked it out and got it

RR - Nice line out overall - went deep - saw a splash deep - handled attempted to handle back to the bird but the dog was picked up



69. FC TOPLINES EVERLASTING ROCK QA2, “Rocky,” BLM, Marc Patton

Came to the line at 2:50 pm

LF -  Arrived under the arc and then he drove the hill - made a loop and kept on the hill - keeping the hunt tight and was able to locate his bird

LR - Drove deep and wide right up the hill - worked the area and got it

RF - His initial line took him towards the RR guns - he turned and drove to the area of the flyer fall instead and got his flyer

RR -  Nice line an quickly recovered the bird




66. FC OUTBACK’S RISING STAR, “Champ,” BLM, Steve Yozamp

Came to the line at 2:40 pm

LF -  Champ arrived under the arc - but just missed the bird and turned right - a quick move back and he had the bird

LR - Just missed it running left of the bird  but quickly turned back and grabbed his bird

RF - Committed to the area with a tight hunt - a brief loop deep and came back to the area and located the bird

RR -  Came in under the arc - a tight couple passes in the area and he had his bird





No-Bird Rerun 49. FC-AFC WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN, “Wilma, “CLF, Mark Huffman

 Wilma and Mark came back to the line for a Rerun at 2:37 pm and had a 3rd No-bird, they will be back at the end

65. FC-AFC DRY CREEKS TRU BLU, “Trudy,” BLF, Alan Pleasant

Came to the line at 2:29 pm

LF -  Out to a bale - circled - went up the hill and back to find her bird

LR- Started to hunt about half way to the bird - worked back and forth on her way out until she got it

RF - Over the berm and out to the bird

RR -  Great line going out  - angled right - turned left and straight to the bird!



Pick-up 64. FC-AFC COOLWATER’S COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, “Trump,” BLM, Alex Washburn

Came to the line at 2:19 pm

LF -  Went right of the tree and drove the hill - his hunt pattern took him up the hill - but he came back to the base and got his bird

LR- Ran deep of the LR - his hunt bowed around the area and he set up a large hunt pattern - but he was picked up





63. FC OGF MATTY ROBERTS MH QA2, “Matty,” BLF, Tim Milligan

Came to the line at 2:06 pm

LF -  Arrived under the arc - starts to hunt the hillside in large loops and that put her on the bird

LR - She entered the area left and went up by the tree for a loop - came back down to the area of the fall and located her bird

RF - Blew through the area and went deep - she worked it out and came back to grab the bird. She looked back over her shoulder as she came back in as if to note .. "one more to go"

RR -  She drove back deep of the guns - made a couple passes deep and left  - worked her way to the bird and got it




Handle 62. FC COPPERTOP FOUR WAYS TO SUNDAY, “Sunday,” BLM, Al Arthur

Came to the line at 1:58 pm

LF -  Into the area at the base of the hill to begin a hunt - up to the top - around the tree - wide left to the bird

LR- Out to the hay bale - back to the blind - circled the tree - headed back towards the flyer and was handled to the bird

RF - Blew through the RR fall area and went deep and then right to the flyer area - 1 whistle to stop but the dog didn't hear it - got the flyer bird

RR -  Great line - got it!

Handle 55. FC-AFC MARSHWIND’S TURBULENCE, “Evie,” BLF, Bente Kongsore

Came back to the line at 1:37 pm

LF -  Straight to the bird

LR- Into the area by the blind - hunted around and then deep - up the hill away from the bird - got deep and was handled back to this bird

RR - Great line but blew through the area - went very deep - but she worked her way back and got her bird

RF - Out left of the guns - cut in front and went for the bird





Handle 60. FC-AFC WHITEWATER’S KLONDIKE GOLDRUSH -DAWSON, “Dawson,” BLM, Bill Barstow

Came to the line at 1:28 pm

LF -  Drove deep of the bird - turned and quartered his way down to the bird

LR - Drove out beyond the fall area - circled back to work into the fall and grab his bird

RF - Nice job on his flyer

RR -  Made a pass short - then set up an extended hunt deep and right - the dog was handled with difficulty to the bird


Handle 59. FC SEASIDE’S LL COOL J, JR, “Cool J,” BLM, Craig Crook

Came to the line at 1:14 pm

LF -  Came into the area - ran past it - hunted high - came back down and got it

LR - Ran out to the area - overran the mark - got left and deep - came back in and scooped up his bird

RF - Good mark!

RR -  Went out way deep - handled back to this bird 


Handle 58. FC DISCOVERING NEW LANDS, “Chris,” BLM, Ty Rorem

Came to the line at 1:03 pm

LF -  Across the field and up the hill and around on the hill - hunted around the huge cedar and then down to the bird

LR- Found the guns and moved to the field for a quick retrieve

RF - Very nice job on his flyer

RR -  Went on a good line and then faded right - missed the bird and went deep into the pond and the far trees - handled back to this bird


Handle Rerun 36. FC B&B’S GOSSIP GIRL, “Rumor,” BLF, Marc Patton

Came back to the line at 12:55 pm for a Rerun

LF - Very nice!

LR -  Straight in to the bird!

RF - Stopped to sniff a quick hay bale - continued on out past the guns to arrive deep right just behind the flyer fall and she came home with her flyer.

RR - Excellent line to the cover - splashed in the far pond and was handled back to this bird.



Double Handle 56. FC-AFC TRUMARC’S MAGNIFICENT FRANCHISE, “Rex,” BLM, Ronald Aronoff

Came to the line at 12:42 pm

LF -  Rex worked the fall area pretty thoroughly  - worked his way up behind the tree and around - back to the area where he worked out his bird.

LR- Stopped short for a loop -went towards the gunners hide - back to the area of the fall and located the bird

RF - Out towards the RR - his hunt pattern took him deep - crossed over towards the Flyer guns where he was handled and retrieved the Flyer bird.

RR -  His line started him off towards the flyer area - he was stopped and handled to the RR mark.
